Customers said this shave soap delivers "outstanding" lather that's "slick" and protective. The bold campfire/smoke scent is polarizing—many love the "masculine" woody aroma that "lasts all day," while some find it overpowering like an "ashtray." Performance is consistently praised as "exceptional" with great cushion and post-shave feel.

Not for everyone.

I love, LOVE this soap. Let me get the most important stuff covered. When I first tried Sterling many years ago, I wasn’t that impressed with the lather. But soap makers change their base over time. This time around the lather was outstanding, slick, protective. Great shave in that regard. Now, down to the scent. I love the scent. Absolutely love it. But this won’t appeal to a lot of people. There’s a serious smoke scent here and it’s a mesquite smoke. You won’t be able to run from that. It’s not subtle. But if that doesn’t sound bad to you, give this one a go. After having used it, I will be buying more Sterling in the future.

Excellent scent plus quality of soap makes this a staple floor my routine.

Really not sure how to feel. Smells exactly like a campfire. But stirling is awesome regardless.

This smells great

This smells like the smell you get when you cut up a tree that fell over a while ago to me. Woody and mildly smokey but not like sticking your head in a campfire. A lot of the reviews say that it smells like smoke in an offensive way but that was not my experience.

Fire & Ash!

This scent is almost offensive with how bold it is. I read the description, read the reviews, knew I wanted something in this ballpark, and despite all of that it was still a punch in the face after opening the puck for my first whiff. Wow! It's familiar and yet unlike anything else I've ever smelled before. I appreciate how wild and masculine this scent is and will be a repeat buyer. If Electric Sheep is 'polarizing' because of citronella and Glacials need warning labels for those sensitive to menthol, I suggest treating this Texas Fire with the same caution. It's not a relaxing night by the fireplace or bonfire; this is a soap with a scorched-earth attitude.

Love the smell of this shave soap. Scent last even after the shave.

Scent

I have nothing to say about the shave soap performance- Stirling is always been a great product that gives better shaves than anything else in its price point.

I hope this helps someone who has a question of what the scent is: burnt wet hay.

Great Lather, smells like campfire

I have loved this product. I bought it in March and now it’s September. The puck has lasted a while (I shave 1-2x per week and sometimes less frequently, I know that’s vague for how long it lasts, but it’s still 80-90% full). I went to a local shop and all they carried was the sheep tallow or mutton tallow. It almost put me off of the brand completely till I saw they had beef tallow and gave this one a go. Once I learned how to properly build a lather (there are plenty of videos out there including I think Rod did one) this has been a game changer for my shaving. I bought badger brand because they were natural and it didn’t build a later well and I didn’t like it. This builds a great leather, great shave, moisturizing, etc. I am beyond impressed with this stuff! I will be a lifetime customer! I will also add I am extremely picky, but because I’m so picky I typically will only go out of my way to write reviews if I have a great or terrible experience. My experience exceeded my expectations which were set high.

Wife doesn’t love the smell of campfire, and I’ll admit it smells like a campfire. If you are a pyro and love the smell of campfire this is the shave soap for you!

Side note, if you’re like me and you’ve made it this far in my rant, it’s been fun with my little kids as they always want some on their face because they think it’s fun and like smelling like dad. Great time to have time with your kids my 2 year old daughter loves when dad shaves and she loves watching me shave and the experience it is.

Texas on Fire Shave Soap

Saw mixed reviews on this. Some love it and some say it isn’t for them at all. I love it. I have always enjoyed colognes that have a smoky scent to them. This definitely fits that bill. Would absolutely buy again

Great Lather

I used this with face lathering today. The scent was very forward and if you do not like a smoky scent, then this may not be for you. I do enjoy smoky scents like pipe smoke. Texas on Fire goes beyond that scent and I do like it. It lathered exceptionally well and provided a great cushion for my SE razor.

Did you like smoked cheese as a child?

Smoke, smoke and more smoke. The kind of smoke you get in cheese and Lansang Souchong tea plus other warming elements. The hit of that specific cheese smoke does not linger past the shave, and it is not irritating.

It might be interesting to use this to "smoke up" another soap as the menthol drops do.

Don't let the strong smoke off the puck deter you

This has a very strong smoke scent off the puck. Magic occurs though once lathered. The smoke smell is still there and very forward however all of the other fragrances blossom and the smoke scent tames and you do get that campsite Texas cedarwood fire. Bold move Stirling, bold move.

Campfire In a Tub

Texas on Fire is a stunning campfire in a tub formulation without being smoke in your eyes overpowering. The folks at Stirling nailed this scent and I highly recommend it if you like the scent of a campground where firewood is a blazin’! Enjoy! 🏕️ 🤠

More ash tray unfortunately

This is the first product from Stirling that has disappointed me. This scent reminds me of a hotel room that was previously smoked in. I'll probably just toss this one in the trash. I was expecting pine tar soap smell that I love.

Unique Would Be An Understatement

The name Texas On Fire and its description hooked me. Who can not be tempted by the scent of a forest fire in Texas, for heaven's sake?
When it was delivered, along with other Stirling Soaps, it was the one that most intrigued me. I gave it a sniff and ... well, I momentarily wondered why I had ordered it. Had a suffered a momentary lapse of reason? No. I was tempted by something different. I know Stirling Soaps will lather and provided a great shave. So the scents, many of which are totally unique, are the ticket to a smile and a knowing nod during those precious moments in the early morning when I'm preparing to shave, secure in the knowledge that this particular soap has enhanced my post-shower ritual with a scent that takes me to a campfire with crackling twigs and wisps of smoke in the chilly air ...
I'll admit it: this scent isn't for everyone. But I look forward to the mornings when it's my chosen shave soap.

Warm and relaxing

I bought this soap a little bit ago absolutely love the smell, it did take some time to get used to. Even whenever I’m not shaving I go ahead and crack it open to smell it really wish there was a cologne that was made with this smell but seriously happy with this deep rich smell.

Scary smell, but works very well!

At first its was scary by its colour and smell, reminded (censored). But after blooming and lathering the scent profile changed drastically in good way! Smells like fire spirit! Lather quickly and easily, post shave feel is marvellous.
Pairs well with same after shave splash.

Ashtray to Mesquite BBQ

The lather is great, as always with Stirling. My review has to do with the scent, which really is something special. As my title implies, the scent starts out smelling like an ashtray then develops into a kind smokey BBQ made from charcoal and mesquite. Or sort of like a chili with chipotle. I like it, but it is a little bit strange. Scent lasts, so it may not necessarily be to your closer associates' liking. Walking around outside with a Covid mask on, the scent really lingers. I walk past the local BBQ place and start thinking about ordering take-out.

I ordered a sample puck, a sample witch-hazel, and a sample after-shave splash. All three are close in scent, but my favorite is the witch-hazel. There is something about the naturally-occurring smokey quality already occuring in the witch hazel that blends quite well with this scent.

for the untamed man

The scent for the man who wants to keep catching whiffs of the bonfire he used to be at as a kid. Reminds me of nights on my families farm and hard working days. This is for the construction worker and cowboy. when I'm on the job-site up north; this scent brings me back to my bull-riding in the south and my visit to Texas. The scent is all man like me and the women absolutely love it- reminds them they are with a man who can handle anything- but who cares what they think. Texas On Fire is untamed and awesome. I wish they had their full range of products with this smell.
the nice thing about the shave soap is it lathers and moisturizes awesome and sticks that signature scent right to ya

So Glad I Tried This!

Nothing smells worse than ashes; I love the smell of a campfire, but can't stand the smell of the fire pit in the morning.

Texas on Fire is the campfire. To my nose I pick up on the cedar mixed in with the smoke and something else that I can't quite pin down--almost cinnamon-y, but not quite. Dunno, maybe if someone tossed a little piece of incense in the fire. It's very subtle, hard to distinguish, but wonderful.

Rugged, bold, and uniquely distinctive (in a good way; no, in a great way). I have 3 soaps in my rotation--Texas on Fire has claimed a permanent spot.

Smell like an outdoor barbacue in the woods with Buddies....

Great Scent. Great Soap. Not sure I like it as a shave soap though...

I DO love it, but it just smells so darn good it makes me hungry. Don't try to "sample" a taste, believe me, it's NOT barbecue, it IS soap...

Shocked at first, now growing on me

I knew I was taking a risk on this soap (and the Witchhazel/Aloe) but thought it was worth it. Before my first shave with the soap I asked my wife for her opinion on the pot and she said that she liked it. I used it to shave and followed up with the matching Witch Hazel and Aloe. The result are very pleasing to me but I do I smokey fragrances.

Smells like a smoker or a wildfire

So the scent lives up to its description. It has notes of wood, char, & smoke so if you don't like the smell of a fire or a smoker, this one is not for you. I enjoy the scent, but the sample might be the largest puck I need. It still has the great slickness & lather & leaves my face feeling moisturized.

Not my favorite scent, but still a good soap

Ozark Mountain is my go-to shave soap, and I love the product so much that I decided to start exploring the other fragrances. This one was not my favorite- I was reminded actually of an ash tray... until I actually lathered it up and the campfire scent came through. I enjoyed the scent while using it and even afterward, the lingering scent was enjoyable. But then I went back to the puck and was reminded again of an ash tray. It's still an excellent soap, but the fragrance when not in use just isn't for me.

Loved the scents!!

When I ordered the sample soap of Texas on Fire it takes me back to camping memories of growing up in Scouting and going camping on weekends and some week long. Will be ordering larger one as am going thru some more other samples to see which I like the most but Lemon Chill is getting to be my other favorite after shave splash! Keep it up as I will be ordering more shaving supplies from Stirling for sure in the future as their soaps are better than other soaps!!

Love it!!

Smells like what you'd imagine a Texas fire to smell like. Very smoky and manly. I thought Agar would be my ultimate favorite Stirling scent but, this one is just as good....maybe even better? The more I use it, the more the scent mellows out; the better it gets. I really like it paired with the Agar balm/aftershave/beard oil. Will definitely order again. Pleasantly long lasting scent for a shave soap, occasionally I can catch hints of it here and there during my next shower the following day.

Very slick soap as are all the Stirling shave soaps I've tried.

A year with this soap

I've had Texas on Fire for a year now and it just keeps getting better! When I first pulled the cap I was reminded of a freshly doused fire. Not a bad scent, just not that campfire scent I was hoping for. Upon lathering however.....wow, there it is! Smoky campfire goodness. If there ever was a 10 on the scent strength scale this is the one. Makes Tabac seem powerless. Interestingly though, as the year has progressed the soap scent has matured into something truly magical. It's less sharp and more rounded. Kind of like a rough and tumble teen maturing into a steady and dependable man. My den will never be void of Texas on Fire. It smells like a hundred fires I've kindled while out working the drift fence between Dry and Mill Canyons in the Idaho Sawtooth mountains. Love it for making me young again!
