I think it is worth noting that I have sensitive skin and I have spent many months testing different techniques and products for my shaving needs. It took me a while to determine that I needed a pre-shave product. It took me even longer to try out the many different options in this area: pre-shave creams, pre-shave oils, blending my own pre-shave oil, etc. When I tried Stirling's pre-shave bar, the experience was superior to anything I had tried before.

My specific shaving regimen is to wet the face thoroughly, apply a layer of the Stirling Pre-Shave soap, then apply Stirling Sheep shaving soap, shave with the grain, then rinse and repeat for a pass across the grain.

The Pre-Shave Soap seems to offer a good amount of base protection and works very well with the shave cream that I apply atop of it. Further, the pre-shave soap rinses cleanly from my shaving brush (Stirling synthetic) and from my razor (Leaf Twig). Finally, the pre-shave soap rinses cleanly from my face, unlike oils.

The fact that the pre-shave soap is in a bar and not a cream helps me much more control over the thickness of the lather when I apply it.

So, after many trials with different types of products from many different producers, I am glad that Stirling's Pre-Shave Soap is a pillar of my shaving routine.

I have tried many pre shave soaps and this provides much more slickness and no skin sensitivity. I do not care for pre shave soaps with scents or menthol.

I bought this unscented pre-shave soap to get away from commercial highly processes face soaps. I love that is neutral and luxurious to use. I really believe that it gives me much smoother shaves (especially in conjunction with Stirling shaving soap.) This will be my staple from now on.

I was sent a free sample of this and after using it HAD to buy a full bar. It creates a great base for your lather.

The use of this soap as a base upon which to build the soap lather has significantly increased the comfort of my daily shave. It protects my skin, but rinses much more cleanly than pre-shave oil.

Stirling makes an excellent, long lasting pre-shave bar. It is very slick and is a consistent part of my Pre-shave routine

Game changer in in my preshave routine I exfoliate with it then add again to aide in shave really assisted in my lather being I’m fairly new to wet shaving and still learning to make a good lather

I've been using the Unscented Pre-Shave soap for several years now. I feel it helps soften my beard and makes my shaves even better. I have tried other Pre-Shave soaps from other vendors and none seem to compare to the results I get with Stirling. If you haven't tried it, you should. I use the unscented so it doesn't conflict with any shave soap scent I may use for the day.

I got a really nice shave!
I used it to wash my face and head first and applied some again before applying shave soap.
The shave was nice and smooth and my skin felt really great afterwards.

Works great on its own for a quick hand/face lather shave, and even better as a pre shave with the already excellent stirling soap.

I've been using pre-shave oil for sometime now, but wanted to give this pre-shave soap a try. Unfortunately, I don't find this effective as a pre-shave. I will give one of their pre-shave oils a try.

Great product. Slick. Definitely made shaving with sensitive skin a more smoothed out and enjoyable experience. For reference I used it with Speick shaving creme and got a good lather with a nice residual slickness.

I'm a big fan of Stirling Soap Co. and their products are always top notch. This is exactly the missing product I needed for the perfect shave. I simply wet the bar of soap, apply on my face, use my hand to form a thin lather, and them apply my shave soap on top. The preshave adds an extra layer of slickness and really boost the lather. 10/10 and would recommend.

I get really smooth head shaves when I use a light coat of this as a pre-shave; much smoother than when I use cream alone.

I simply wet the bar and run it lightly over the stubble on my scalp and then wet my hands and work up a thin lather, then apply my shave cream. In a pinch, it works perfectly well on its own as a shave soap, I just apply more soap and water than I do for a pre-shave.

Every Stirling product I've used has been top notch and this is no exception. Additionally, I've used Stirling's bath soap, shampoo bar, and beard oil. If I ever shave my beard, I'll definitely try their shaving soaps.

Big fan of the hydration and cushion in Stirling's shave soaps, but this pre-shave adds some wonderful slickness that really enhances shaving. It's fragrance free rather than "unscented" so if you want something with no smell, this isn't it. The smell it does have is typical of quality soaps and is very pleasant, though it does immediately get masked by the scent of whatever else you use on top of it. The bar is huge and will probably last an eternity, but when it finally does run out I will definitely be purchasing more.

This surprised me, very slipper, you could shave with this alone. Wonder if a brush would foam it? Unable to waist what I don't like, mostly vegan and hard soaps, this makes them acceptable to finish off if you leave it on before. This is a winner.

Great pre-shave/beard wash. Much better than other pre-shaves that really didnt seem to improve the shave itself. Rinsed easily and left face clean. Also added a slickness to the shave. Pairs excellent with the unscented Beeswax shave soap. Will definately purchase again.

Provides a great cleanse for the face. Hydrates whiskers very well. Also it provides an slickness that provides glide for my razor and a boost for the lather.

Ran out of shower soap and now this is my shower soap. Has everything you need to get you clean and condition your skin. Has six different oils plus glycerin, need I say more.

I have been using oils, but I really like this soap! So far it is workin nicely!

I wanted an unscented pre soap. This is great. I wash my face with, then towel off and rub the dry soap on my face as an lather enhancer/Protective layer. Works great. The bar is big and should last a long time. Highly recommended.

I really liked the generous size of this soap bar and that it didn't have a scent that could potentially clash with any of your other shaving products or colognes. It didn't agree with my skin (burned long after I finished shaving), but I have run into this before with another artisan soap as well, so I chalk it up to my skin or maybe a bad batch. If you don't have sensitive skin, you may not have any problems with this soap. If you do have sensitive skin, you may want to think twice before purchasing this soap (or know someone else who would enjoy your soap if it doesn't work for you).

Just great scent-free soap . . . Plan to order some bath soap because this face bar is great.

I'll begin by stating that I have somewhat sensitive skin, and every other Stirling product I've used (save SDM) has been great. That said, this product did not agree with my face at all. I used it to wash/prepare my beard in the shower before shaving on three separate occasions, and every single shave felt like my face was on fire. I'm certain that this pre-shave soap was the culprit, as the other products used for each shave had never before given me any issues. I'm surprised that no other reviewers have had this experience.

I've tried both the plain and mentholated pre-shave soaps. I slightly prefer the mentholated version.

I own all (yes, all) of the PAA (Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements) pre-shave soaps. I've used a half bar of each of them. The Stirling pre-shave soaps perform just as well as PAA and are less expensive.

I cut these in half to extend their life a little.

I Used This As A PreShave. Its Very Good. It Has Improved My Shave By A Very Large Margin. Would Recommend To Any Wet Shaver.

My preshave routine includes a long hot shower. I lather up with
Stirling's preshave soap, and let that the lather just sit there on my beard while I go about the rest of my showering business. After a good rinse at the end my beard is soft and supple. I've tried other preshave products, but this is the one that works for me. Your mileage may vary.
